🌈 Always Been a Rainbow Hanging Over Your Head
There Has Always Been a Rainbow Hanging Over Your Head
aka: You’re Not Falling Apart — You’re Breaking Through
There’s a line in a Kacey Musgraves song that stopped me mid-listen, mid-overthinking spiral, mid-life:
“There has always been a rainbow hanging over your head.”
And I paused.
Because what if that’s literally true?
What if God’s been placing reminders above us this whole time—
not waiting for us to pull it all together,
but gently layering beauty over our breakdowns,
as if to say, “She’ll look up eventually.”
☁️ The Rainbow Wasn’t for Aesthetic — It Was a Covenant
Genesis 9:13. After the earth flooded and everything was soggy and silent, God tells Noah:
“I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”
That word covenant? It’s not decorative. Not symbolic for the sake of being poetic.
It’s a permanent, holy promise.
God didn’t say, “There won’t be any more storms.”
He said, “When they come, look for the sign. Remember Me.”
The rainbow means: “I’m still here.”
Not because we earned it.
But because He is who He says He is.
☂️ But Sometimes You Don’t See It
Sometimes our vision is clouded.
Sometimes our hearts are heavy.
And sometimes the silence feels louder than any promise.
And we whisper,
“God? I’m trying to trust You, but I’m worn thin.”
And still, He answers: “Look up.”
We expect His promises to arrive like instructions.
But often, they come as a lyric that lands unexpectedly,
a wildflower breaking through pavement,
a quiet moment that somehow softens us again.
(Or a blog post. Maybe.)
🌈 If You Could See What He Sees...
“If you could see what I see, you’d be blinded by the colors.”
That lyric sticks because it reminds us:
God doesn’t just observe us — He delights in us.
Even in the parking lot tears.
Even in the quiet spirals after we say we’re “trusting.”
Even in our questions.
His promises aren’t earned.
They’re embedded. Already alive in us.
This week, a friend told me something that stayed with me:
In the original Hebrew, when Jesus raises the little girl from the dead, He doesn’t simply say, “Little girl, get up.”
He says something closer to: “Little lamb, lift your legs.”
It changes everything.
That’s who we are to Him — not burdens, not projects, but beloved daughters. Little lambs.
And when we’re still, unsure, or done — He doesn’t scold.
He kneels close and whispers, “Rise, little one. I’m right here.”
Maybe that’s what the rainbow is, too.
Not just a symbol in the sky,
but a sacred nudge: Lift your legs. There’s still breath in you.
📩 What’s Actually Promised
Not ease. Not performance. Not polished faith.
But these:
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5
→ You’re not alone. Not now. Not ever.
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
Philippians 1:6
→ He’s not done with your story.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
Jeremiah 31:3
→ Nothing you do can outrun it.
“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.”
Psalm 126:5
→ The ache isn’t wasted.
→ Sometimes the breakdown is just the pre-show to the breakthrough.
“All things work together for good…”
Romans 8:28
→ Even this.
These aren’t conditional promises.
They’re your inheritance.
🧳 She With Wings, Even When Grounded
Let’s be real. Some days you rise with clarity and courage.
Other days, it takes everything just to get dressed.
But your wings? Still there.
Not clipped when you struggle.
Not revoked when you doubt.
You are She With Wings.
And even when you forget how to fly —
the sky still knows your name.
☁️ How to Spot a Rainbow (Even When There’s No Sky)
– A song that speaks to something unspoken
– A moment of peace that makes no sense
– A message right when you needed it
– A flicker of light that catches you off guard
These aren’t coincidences.
They’re gentle confirmations.
✨ For You, Right Now
Journal Prompt:
What promise do I want to believe today — even if it feels distant?
Breath Prayer:
God is here.
His promises live in me.
Even now, I choose to look up.
Full Prayer:
God, thank You for the rainbow — not just in the sky, but within me.
Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your love or pretend I’m fine.
Help me notice again. Breathe again. Rise again.
Amen.
📬 Final Whisper
You’ve never been without God.
You’ve never been without color.
Even when the storm was loud.
Even when the doubt screamed louder.
Even when you nearly gave up — He didn’t.
There has always been a rainbow hanging over your head.
Look up.
You’re still in the story.
And He’s still coloring outside the lines.
